Exciting news!!! ArtsConnect has applied and received a grant from the Ohio Arts Council to install the township's very first sculpture! The sculpture will celebrate the life and legacy of the nationally recognized artist, Charley Harper and will be installed at the heaviest traveled intersection in Hamilton County, Galbraith and Winton Roads.
Charley Harper was a resident of Springfield Township for over sixty years. Celebrating his legacy in Springfield Township brings attention to the arts and vibrancy the arts bring.
In January, ArtsConnect placed a Call to Artists to gather submissions from Ohio artists. Proposals were reviewed in February and interviews of top candidates were held. ArtsConnect selected artist Micah Landers and his assistant, Andy Finn to design, build and install "The Many Sides of Charley Harper". We are not releasing the design to the public until the unveiling of the sculpture, scheduled for late June 2022.
Soon, the community will have an opportunity to participate in the design of the sculpture by voting on a series of Charley Harper Artworks. Four of Harper's artworks will be represented in the sculpture.
A digital component (created by ArtsConnect) will be added to the sculpture for further learning opportunities on this project, Charley Harper, the artist and Springfield Township .
BUDGET/COMMISSION
This project is made possible through the Arts Resilience Grant funded through the Ohio Arts Council . The public art budget for the project, including all aspects of design, fabrication, transport and installation, is estimated at $30,000.
