Video Game Design for Kids and Teens
KIDS CODING - VIDEO GAME DESIGN
Ages 7 - 11
Saturdays, 10:30 am - 12:00 p.m.
$80 for non-members
$72 for members
Kids ages 7 - 11 yr old will learn simple coding techniques to create their own 2D video games. This is an introductory class for kids interested in learning coding and how to make their own video games. Students will be using Open Source (free Software) such as Godot with GDScript. Students should bring a laptop to each class.

TEEN & ADULT VIDEO GAME DESIGN
Ages 12 & over
Saturdays, 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.

Learn how to create your own 2D video games using Godot with GDScript, and other free tools. Each session focuses on a different topic covering art, music, and story. GDScript is a programming language with a Python-like structure. Godot is free open-source software. Students should have some experience with computer coding. Please bring a laptop.
Classes are held on Saturdays, 12:30 - 2:30 pm. at ArtsConnect Arts Center, 9158 Winton Road. The building is directly behind the Springfield Township fire station.
At ArtsConnect, we encourage children to explore their creativity independently to foster confidence and original thinking. While we ask that you sign your child in to class, to help your child gain the most from their class experience we kindly request that parents refrain from staying in the classroom.
During class, we invite you to enjoy our complimentary coffee and tea, free Wi-Fi, and comfortable seating areas indoors and outdoors. If there are special circumstances that require your presence, please reach out to our Education Director beforehand.

Instructor - Stephan Carpenter
Stephan grew up playing video games and reading magazines that explained coding in detail. He learned at an early age the connection between programming and video games. The first video games he played were Atari 400 and 286 and soon after began making his own video games. His love of creating video games evolved into Stephan's degree at UC. He received his BS in Information Technology at UC, as well as graduate coursework in Computer Science. Stephan was a Computer Science teaching assistant at UC and Summer Program Lecturer of AI for the Connect 4 program. He was an Instructional Technology Facilitator at East End Community Heritage School where he ran a computer lab and assisted with math coursework. Stephan is proficient in programming, video game design & development, and artificial intelligence, especially for games.

Class Cancellations & Weather Closings
A minimum of four students must be enrolled for the session prior to the stated deadline for the class to take place (maximum 13 students). Cancellations due to weather will be made at least an hour in advance of class and will be listed on the homepage of our website and on the social media sites, Facebook and Instagram. To verify closings, call 513-522-2108.
Due to costs incurred in planning for art classes, full refunds will only be issued when the Arts Council cancels the class. Class cancellations made within 10 business days of the class start date are eligible for a refund, minus a $5 administration fee per student. Refunds will be made by check, not to a credit card. To notify us of a cancellation, please send an email to artsinfo@springfieldtwp.org.
