Intro to Clay
New to clay! Learn the basics of both hand-building and the pottery wheel in this 6-week class. The first 3 weeks will focus on the pottery wheel, the next two weeks will be hand-building, and the last class will be used to glaze all your pieces.

Pottery Wheel Classes
ArtsConnect offers several pottery classes. The first class, Intro to Wheel, teaches participants the basics of throwing clay on a pottery wheel. Students will learn important pottery studio rules and procedures used in all of our pottery classes. Once students have mastered the basic skills of the wheel they may then move onto our more challenging class, Intermediate Wheel. In this class students will strengthen their pottery skills and learn more advanced techniques.

Hand-building Pottery
Score, slip and press! Those are the first steps to working with clay. Participants will learn hand-building techniques such as, coil and slab building. Try our new slab roller. Be inspired to create the most unique ceramic pot possible!

Pottery Workshops

Open Pottery Studio
The Pottery Studio is located in the lower level of the Springfield Township Arts Center and is where all adult hand building and wheel classes take place. Some children’s programs will also take place in the Studio. The Pottery Studio is open during the Arts Center’s regular hours of operation, whenever a class is not taking place, for individuals who have completed an intro class and have purchased an Open Pottery Studio pass. The Pottery Studio has 8 wheels, one large hand building table, a wedging table, glazing center, slab roller, extruder and one kiln.
